General Examination Tips
- Read each question carefully
- Ensure your answer contains information that is relevant to the question – do not write all you know about a topic – apply your answer
to the facts.
- Look for key words in each question – e.g. identify, explain, discuss – these will help you to assess how much detail is required in your
answer.
- Quote appropriate references to the legislation and/or professional
conduct rules or you will lose marks.
- Look at the maximum marks that will be awarded for each question - a
question worth 8 marks will require a more detailed response than a
question worth 2 marks.
- Use good clear English – write in sentences and with punctuation. You
must demonstrate that your English language skill is good enough to
allow you to practise as a solicitor.
- The exam is not a test of memory and you are permitted to take authorised materials into the test room. Know what is in the course
manual etc and where to find it.
- Plan your time.
- If you do start to run out of time – answer the remaining questions in
note form, whilst marks may be lost you will get some marks whereas if
you do not attempt them you will get none.
